Technology is a part of our daily lives in one form or another. Computers, the Internet, video and multimedia are not only a vital part of the business world, but also take up a large portion of our leisure time. The technology around us is constantly changing and affecting our lives in new and exciting ways. As an institution of learning, it is necessary to take advantage of current technology tools and use them to promote learning and increase productivity. We also need to equip our students with the critical thinking and problem solving abilities needed to adapt to changing technology and use it effectively as a tool for learning, expressing and communicating.
While it is important that we teach technology skills, these skills should not be considered a separate subject, but rather an integral part of all subjects. It is the role of the teacher to integrate these skills into the core curriculum and lessons, guide and direct student technology use, and model ethical use of online tools and resources.
